The next Westport Civic Trust talk will examine place-name history in the county, ranging from rare pre-Gaelic survivals to parish and townland names and to the more recent so-called minor names which survive especially in coastal Gaeltacht and island communities.

The next talk in the winter series of lectures will be by Dr Kevin Lysaght, who will discuss the recent excavations in Ballycroy, and the finds that have been made there. This talk will be on Thursday December 4 at 8pm in the Atlantic Coast Hotel and all are welcome. More details are available from Pip Murphy on 098 50202.

This Westport Civic Trust illustrated talk will be given by the noted historian and archaeologist Michael Gibbons on Thursday March 26 at The Atlantic Coast Hotel at 8pm on the subject of the maritime history and archaeology of Connacht’s offshore Islands.

The annual outing will take place on May 23 to Castle Leslie in Monaghan.
